Pillar 17 (第1柱 Dai 17-hashira) is the seventeenth chapter of the Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist manga.

Summary[]

The Headmaster's dormitory has won, and Nathan Caxton is getting a medal. William can't believe that the Head Boy is a demon. He'd gone to help Nathan when Dantalion had cornered him, but upon touching had seen him as a demon.

He is consulting with Kevin, who thinks of a demon reading the Bible as preposterous. Maria comes in, asking for the reverend.

Back in the dormitory, some boys come running with a big "scoop", saying Miss Mollins is a witch and extending a book. It was a book Isaac had lost, and upon defending the woman William is told that she was trying to summon a demon.

In the hallway, he is stopped by Kevin who tells him that Miss Mollins asked him to perform the last rites. Sytry comes crashing in, saying that the Gate to the Demon World just opened, by Maria.

William stops her in the middle of a summoning, unfortunately Kevin is not an exorcist and Sytry demands he choos when the demon goes to attack. Maria is saved by Nathan Caxton, or Camio, whom Dantalion calls a half demon, born from a human woman. He is also one of Solomon's Pillars and is introduced.

Maria and Camio know each other, and he came to Johannes dormitory to see her before she dies. They met when she was still young and working for the Johannes dormitory with her family. They promised to go away together, but Camio didn't keep it.

Upon William's inquiry, Maria admits that she has problems with her lungs and not much time left and wanted to summon a demon to go live in Hell and see Camio. However, it's fine now, as her wish was granted.

Camio was always lonely having no one since he was born, but Dantalion advises against making Maria a Nephilim. William remembers the meeting between Solomon and Camio. Solomon asks if he hated demons that much even if he had demonic blood in his veins and asks Camio to become his so neither humans nor demons can deny him.

Camio seems to recognise William, and Maria asks him to stay here. William tells her she has to take care of herself for his sake.

Later, the boys that took her picture (of her and Camio) return it to her, wondering why he looks like the head boy.

In the dormitory Isaac gripes about not being able to eat Miss Mollins' meat pie, and William, upon being asked why the head boy demon is skipping, says that he's keeping his promise.
